    Karo box underquilt?

Does anyone have experience with making an underquilt with the Karo box pattern of baffles? Is there any reason why this is inferior to the normal longitudinal baffles that seem to be the norm?

The Karo type quilts just seem so much easier to stuff with down, that it seems to be a really attractive option. It shouldn't be too hard to make one that is differentially baffled as well. Have the baffles 12"W x 12"L apart on the bottom side and 10"W x 12" L on the top, then dart the bottom layer to take in some of the width.

I've been using my Karo box UQ for a while now and it's been working fine. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=9883

It's a basic design and I plan to make a new one sometime soon with some minor differences. This one started with 3.1 ounces of down but I added an extra ounce later on. It was also differentially cut as well, but with the sides made as they were it wasn't needed on this particular design.

There have been others to make the Karo UQ, but I don't remember everyone that has made one.
Here is a recent one. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=23810

Thanks for the links. One of those threads is what got me thinking about using that baffle pattern on an underquilt.

    karo box

Both my UQ and TQ are karo, and, I have never had any complaint about down moving around, in fact, if down does shift, you can just shake it, and put it back where you want it. And, it is a WHOLE lot easier to make than conventional baffels along with keeping down evenly distributed. In addition to this, I have a zipper and velcro'ed opening in both items to add more down later, if they need more loft/warmth. Comes it handy after a little test usage.
Since I retired, some times I stay awake all day, some times all night.

Sounds neat! Do you find any escapes through that or is the zipper velcro combo pretty much down proof?
