All packed up and chomping at the bit. Been too long not being in the woods. Didn't get to practice the cake so we'll just have to get by with peach cobbler. Should be at the parking area at 1:00 PM for a meet up with emcee. Will you be there Dave?
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
If I'm able then I'll stop by and say hello and visit for a while but since that'll be my first day off in almost two weeks I have lots to do. My plan is to show up for good at the meeting time on Friday and hike out then. If you guys are going to stay at the main campground that night then give me a call and I might swing by for an evening visit too.
It's getting close!!

Ok. My plan. Pack tonight and tomorrow. Get off work 3:00. Drive down. How to be on the trail before dark. Should be fun. I could end up anywhere.

Stepped out a little bit ago for a little pipe and it's 54 F! Haven't seen temps like that since last spring, early last spring. Came back in and packed some more warmth. Stayed up too long last night for the returns and probably won't get in the hammock early tonight. Bet I sleep good tomorrow night! Is it proper for an old man to get excited about this stuff?

We had upper 40s down here a couple of weeks ago and while I doubt we'll have the same temps as last year (it got down to the lower 40s) it should be veeeeery nice
edit: it is 47 right now
Yes, it is totally proper... it wouldn't be the first hang of the season if grown men weren't screaming and giggling like little girls
The bad news, for me at least, is that I think I'm coming down with a cold. I'm going to soup up and rest and hopefully kick this thing to the curb.

Well I hurt my back and I can't get off much earlier tomorrow.
So that means.... What map do I need to print off? I will be hiking in a little late. I am guessing 6 or 7.
Where do I park? I am guessing at the campground right? I don't have a good hiking GPS, so I will be mapping it.
The trail photos are great thanks.

Yup, park at the main campground and head out from there.
I don't recommend that you go out in unfamiliar territory at night without a gps (do you have something on your phone you could use?). But... if you want to go then I would go to the FL Hangers page for this hang and print out the hiking path map and download the Google kmz file. Load the file in Google Earth and become as familiar as possible with all of the roads (there are multiple ways to get there).
If you want my cell number just send me a pm but it won't do much good that night. If you get lost just pick a good spot to camp for the night and try again in the morning. We'll be heading out for a day hike at about 10 Saturday morning so you should have plenty of time if you wanted to come in the morning.
Good luck!
Dave
