My dutch clips are lighter than my carabiners for one. Secondly, I've had the wire gate on my carabiners bite into the soft bark of Balsam trees. It makes pitch run all over the biner and straps, plus the marks aren't LNT.

Thats certainly the lightest method but, you'd have to take the straps off your hammock each time you set it up. It is the method I use for my kids hammocks and I made large loops in the webbing to facilitate setting it up, but on my store bought hammock the loops are too small for easy set up. That is why I like dutch clips.

I added stitches to keep my DCs on the webbing.
The issue that led me to the Dutch Clips from 'biners was the way that the 'biners compress the webbing unevenly down into the narrow ends of the "D".
I know it probably does nothing to the structure of the webbing, but I prefer the flat lay of the webbing through the DC.

Dutch clips take up less space and stay on you webbing strap.

    Dutch Clips

Personaly I don't think that they are much faster or lighter. I have just a little trouble getting them off with only one hand.

That being said, yes I bought 5 pairs of them. Yes I have them on every one of my setups and, Yes I love them.

This picture was taken in my back yard.
