    Help - whipping question

i have been looking on and off for a few days and can't seem to find a tutorial I am almost sure I saw in the past. I want to whip a hammock with a dog bone so I can attach an adjustable structural ridge line inside the bug net and a whoopee hook outside. Can somebody help me out?

I'm not sure what a dog bone is it, but I'll tell you how I put a SRL on my integrated bugnet hammock. I ran the SRL through the gathered ends of my hammock. I larks headed continuous loops onto the ends, and just slipped the loops of the SRL that were poking through the gathered ends over the end of the continuous loops.

There is the Warbonnet style of whipping shown here and here.

There is the XTrekker-method which is similar and shown in this video.

There is the Papasmurf method which is used on Dream Hammocks shown here and here.

And there are a lot of other solutions, some are shown in this video series.

I use now the Papasmurf method with a contionous loop on both hammock ends. I think this method will save the fabric on the hammock ends and all knots are easy to open but very strong too. As you can see there are two other loops behind the first contionous suspension loop. Two are spliced and the third one is only a knot. The second loop is the loop from a adustable structural ridge line on the inside the bug net and there is another draw cord loop which has a similar meaning than the Warbonnet edge binding loop.

I know also this method. But I skipped it without further thinking. I don't want to think complicated.

As always I do it as easy and solid as possible. The most solid solutions I know are the WBBB style of whipping and the Xtrekker method. Both are very strong and give imo also badly sewn end channels a very good chance not to fall out. The Papasmurf method is imo weaker but more than sufficient if you have properly sewn end channels. All other solutions have been skippped from me. I got already more than I need and I find the Papasmurf method really nice and the easiest if I want to open the whipping because of any reason again.

Change your RL or suspension, maschine wash your hammock, fiddle in another draw cord loop (for a heavy removable peak bag for example), try to control all your DIY edge binding stitch lines or sew another DIY bug net for a Dream Hommock zipper carousel then you understand why I think this way.

I've also tried this. I'm not a fan, because more can go wrong. Without a "knot" of fabric it's possible for a larks headed continuous loop to slip off. In fact on one of tests the continuous loop pulled the whipping line right off the end when wieght was applied.
