    seem legit?

so this is what i came up with. i purchased some welded rings from a hardware store since the local rock climbing store didn't have any descender rings but anyway, what i did was took out the S hooks from my GTUL and just looped the rings through the same way they were attached to the S hooks.(you should be able to see it in the picture below. let me know if the picture doesn't work) does this seem like an acceptable set up? i will probably eventually switch to whoopie slings, but this is what i got for now. and i'm 5' 10" at about 160lbs if that will make a difference.

There have been several reports of folks who have had the rings break at the weld. If memory serves I don't think they were "big" hangers. Use with caution.

I agree. That said, doubled up like these are, they will probably be okay.

I for one have had the rings break at the weld. The weld SHOULD be the strongest point on the ring, but that isn't the case. I am a heavy hanger (and proud) I got about 5-6 test hangs with them before a complete failure dropped me to the ground. Luckily only my pride was hurt.

I'd imagine that not all welded rings are equal; so YMMV, but be safe inspect the rings regularly and replace them at the first sign of a broken weld.

yeah i will definitely keep an eye on them. i will get better ones though in the future. thank you all for the advice and caution. i would hate to be somewhere and have them break. to be honest i'm more worried about the knots at the other end of the rings sliding out then the rings breaking. don't quite trust my knot tying skills

Maintain the 30* hang with an anal compulsion and you will be safer with them. String them tight even once and you could very well over tax them. I used National Hardware (Brand) welded rings for quite a while and did not have any catastrophic failures but they did deform on me. They were rated at 300# I believe... the highest of any that I could find. But you also need to remember that is a static, not a dynamic rating.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Some of the brass ones are rated a little higher. I've hung my 240lb. rear end with them many times with no problem.
