MisterDark, would be nice to have the Palmetto state represented on our very diminuitive and select hang. As a temptation, the day before I'll get a head count and am bringing in sirloin or rib eye---wisenber is hauling the charcoal since MillerGear wont do cold weather HA!

She is a husky-shepherd mix. Judging by the amount of fur she loses, I'd bet more husky. The problem with huskies is that when off leash, they tend to wander. When tied to something, they tend to chew through it in short order. It would e cool, but I have to decide if I want to be shackled to my dog for an entire weekend.

Its just a mile and a half from the trailhead, yes? Heck, I could pulk sled the charcoal AND the dog if its just that far.

... no comment on how LONG it would take me, but yea.
It could be that the purpose of my life is merely to serve as a warning to others.

Can you get her to carry a little keg under her neck like the St. Bernards?

The snow was over 4' deep that time last year. Without snowshoes, I do well to make 1/4mph in that. Then again, if it is not packed in any way, 4' of snow will swallow a husky which would result in me pulling the sled with the dog in it.

After the MN Freeze Yer Butinsky Off hang Jan 7-10, and the Mt Rogers Hang Jan 21-23, I would love to go to Roan Mtn in February!

I'd like to visit Roan Mtn in December, 2010, just to try my Snugfit inside my PeaPod inside my IX Hammock Sock!

My guess is you'll be sweating with all that!
I might be game for a Roan overnight in December as well. Let me know if you get a break.

    Shelter @ Roan Mtn

For what it's worth, here's a pic of the Raon Mtn shelter. It's the old fire warden's cabin. It does have an "upstairs." It was a chilly place when we spent the night there the end of May and few years back!
