Maybe so. If mama bear doesn't chain me to the hearth during fall break, I may try to hike the Chattooga River Trail over 4 or 5 days. Short days - hike in the morning - camp by noon or so - fish till I feel like eating. Mostly level, mellow walking. It could be a good time.Originally Posted by Hooch

I figure by late October it shouldn't be too bad. Warm days, cool nights, with water still tolerable to maybe wash up in.Hopefully it won't be too hot. It's along the river so maybe some cool breezes will keep it comfortable for you.

Bearpaw... Where you planning on starting at for the CRT.. I have done all of the SC section and some into GA... I have been trying to figure out where the best place to start at (or end) in NC. Also find the best maps and or guides.

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
I am thinking of starting at the trailhead near Garnett Hill and Whiteside Cove Roads. I'll have to walk maybe a mile of Bullpen Gap Road and catch the Ellicott Rock Trail where it rejoins the CRT (now numbered 221) at the SC line. From there, it's a pretty straightforward walk south and west along the Chattooga to the trail's end.
I'm using the National Geographic maps #785 (Nantahala & Cullasaja Gorges) for the NC & SC sections and #778 (Brasstown Bald/Chattooga River) for the GA section. There is a guidebook for the region that includes some info on the CRT, but I dont' own it.
