Got the pictures. First is just the seam between the 8" strip of nylon and the 8" strip of noseeum:

Next is the same section with the hammock strung up:

This is a little closer to the head where the noseeum is attached to the tie outs. This area is about where my head is and lets me get a good view out of the hammock:

Finally another view under the pullout a little further up the hammock:

I am giving the 11' version a go and have a couple questions. So far I have roll hemmed the entire body and straight side piece.

    1. Will I need a zipper foot for my thread injector

    2. Is it overkill to roll hem all edges before sewing anything together?

    3. Whats the process of sewing two rolled edges together(like net to body)

    4. Should I leave a few inches on either end when installing zipper

    5. If using grossgrain, Do you sandwhich everything together, fold it and run it through that way?

I'm sure i'll have more, thanks

    1. Never used my zipper foot.
    2. Its a matter of preference really. What do you feel comfortable with.
    3. You could always roll them together. If not then just press together and stitch.
    4. I usually do.
    5. I sandwich then sew when doing grosgrain.

I'm suuuuuper new to the whole DIY camping gear scene, especially the sewing. I'm having a little trouble reading the sewing pattern. Would it be possible to have an A:A, B:B markup to show which edges of which piece get sewn to which edges of which other pieces? I'd love to make a hammock but don't want to move forward until I'm positive of how the pieces fit together.

First thanks for all the info. I am going to be giving this a try. Actually one for me and one for my wife. She is 5'8" so I am gathering that the 8' desigh will be good for her. I am 6' and about 225lbs. I was thinking of going with a 10' design or should I go with the 9'?

Another kind of dumb question. Since we are building 2 hammocks:
    1) would it be easier to just make both the same size? (both 9' or 10'?)
    2) should we make 1 completely and then make the second or do step 1 on hammock 1 then step 1 on hammock 2, then step 2 H1, step 2 H2 ,,,

I appreciate the experience on this site. Thanks, J

I am no expert and have only mostly completed one of these.
Having said that I am also 225 but 6'1" and I made the 10' version. I finished everything except the bugnet last night. Its huge and it seems the footbox sits way too high to be functional. When I layed diagonal there was more calf pressure than my skeeter beeter pro with no footbox. My fabric was 64" wide so that makes a difference as well. I have not made an 8' or 9' but ill bet either would be big enough for us. TAKE YOUR TIME!

    Hey guys,

I made a 8' and I'm 5'10". Super comfortable. My friend is 6'2" and made a 9' and couldn't imagine why you would need any more space. So I think if you're on the fence, try the 9'.

As far as sewing methods go here's a really helpful diagram that basically covers all the seams I used in my hammock. Thanks to Scott at DIY gear supply for hosting the image. I used the first two steps of the flat fell to attach my bugnet and the grosgrain method for the footbox/shelf attachment.

    Ghostcat,
Thanks for your input. It seemed odd to me that an additional 2" in height required an additional 2' in hammock length. But then I have never made one or really slept in one so I am willing to defer to the collective wisdom here. Maybe I'll just make the 8' for my wife and then try it out.

The worst case is I would have to make another one and find a home for thisone (once I make it!)
    Thanks again,
    J

Re: DYI WBBB Hammock Thoughts (Plans)

I find that longer hammocks are more comfortable. I would go 9' for the wife..
