    Hennessy Hammock vs. ENO

    Hey guys,

I'm new here, and just have some questions. Last, I was backpacking with some friends, slept one night in my friend's Doublenest, and decided I was going to start hammocking. I finally got around to buying an ENO system -- I purchased a Singlenest, the slapstraps Pro, the dryfly, and I even bought some lightweight climbing biners for it.

After doing all this, I found out about the Hennessy Hammock, did some research, and discovered how AWESOME it is. Now, I am strongly considering returning my ENO and everything to REI, spending about 20 bucks more, and buying an HH.

I assembled some pros and cons. I am probably wrong in a lot. Also, my primarily intended use is backpacking.

    ENO-pros
    -Easy to set up
-Weight limit of 400 lbs means it can hold two people
-Seems more comfortable as a chair
-Seems better suited to quick and easy set up just for chilling

    ENO-cons
    -No bugnet
-When you put everything together, it is over four lbs
    -Uses multiple stuff sacks
-Slap straps stretch a lot. A lot.
-Slap straps have fixed hanging points
-I tried to put a thermarest ridgerest in it, and it didn't work that well

    HH-pros
-Really lightweight (I'm going to get the ultralite backpacker model)
    -Bugnet
    -Snakeskins seem cool
-Lying diagonal is supposed to be more comfortable
    -One stuff sack
    -The double bubble pad

    HH-cons
    -Lower weight limit
-Rain fly looks like it may not cover that much
-It seems maybe difficult to set up?

As I am a backpacker, the weight matters quite a lot to me. Additionally, I am worried about how well the rainfly works, and also how well the double bubble pad works. Anything you can tell me about what I am right or wrong about, which one you consider better and why, pros and cons, and the rainfly or the pad would be GREATLY appreciated!

I wouldn't put two much emphasis on the ability to put two people in one, though it may hold two people, two people is NOT AT ALL comfortable. Maybe for short term cuddling, but I don't think I could ever spend the night with two people in the hammock.

Additionally, you lay on the diagonal in all hammocks, so it's it really not only a feature of the HH, you do it in the eno too. Also you might want to give some considerations to whether you're more interested in the side zip or bottom entry on the HH.

As for the tarps, I've heard a lot of people who love their HH fly, and a lot of people who hate the eno fly. I have neither so...

However I do have an ENO DN and I can say I love it and it's super comfortable. I'm looking to upgrade to a warbonnet blackbird soon though.

You obviously suffer from ADOS (Attention Deficit Oooooo Shiny). It's OK, many members here suffer the same.

That said, you might want to take your time and look around before making a decision. ENO and HH are quite different hammocks, but there are even more! Search around for a while before deciding on another model. JMO, but you'll probably want to hang on to that ENO for some of the reasons you listed as "pros"; one of the best lounging hammocks around IMO. Also, my girlfriend and I actually enjoy sleeping double from time to time and the ENO style hammocks are as good as a single hammock bed gets for two people.

Welcome to both the forums and your new obsession.

I have the ULBP and I like it a lot- the only thing I might do is get the hex fly instead of the asym tarp. The hex is quite a bit larger which can afford some more rain protection in windy conditions.

I did upgrade my suspension to use whoopie slings and they make setup super easy, and with snakeskins, it packs nice too.

What Cannibal said. I dont know how tall you are but the ENO is a short hammock and has limited flatness for a taller person IMO.

I love my HHDJ, HHEUL, and HH Safari, and I do not like my Eno. It may just be me (HYOH) but I think Eno's are too short and they don't seem as comfortable to me. Just my $.02.

I agree with Cannibal, that you should shop around a bit more if you have time, and research other hammocks before making a final decision. This will save you money, because you will not be as apt to get another hammock later if you do your research and are happy with your choice. Plus, I would get the bigger tarp as ShhQuiet stated, you will be happy you did.

Well, if you're talking about REI being the place you have to go to, then the HH is your only other choice (except a GT which is similar to ENO). But its a good choice! I think you'll find that for $20 more, you'll like it better.

Was it a zip model? You'll probably end up getting an UQ if you don't already have one, and my only beef with my HH is that I haven't done the zip mod yet, so I can't reach out and adjust my UQ.

There are others to try so definitely look at them here and on the referenced websites. I'm currently debating going to a JRB bridge hammock.

Just a heads-up about REI: You won't be able to upgrade to the hex fly and you'll have to pay about $20 for the snakeskins if you order through REI. If you order at Hennessy, you can upgrade and get the snakeskins for free.

Ok that is probably a good idea. The thing is, I don't want to get overwhelmed with choices, or else ALL my time will go to hammocks and I'll neglect my real world responsibilities...:-P. Do you have any brands that you recommend?
