How do you hang an underquilt?

My wife and I just completed a synthetic underquilt. I had the distinct pleasure of attaching all the lines and doing my first hang in dark sub freezing weather last night because I had to...not because I wanted to. I was coming through a long mountain pass last night when I discoverd the road was closed for the night. Fortunately I had all my gear with me.

That's when i discovered how little thought I had given to the proper way to hang the underquilt. I assume the lines that cinch the ends simply have a barrel lock on the ends for quick adjustment. I guess my real question is how you actually attach the lines from the four corner loops that suspend the hammock. Right now I have four individual lines coming off the the loops. Last night I simply tied the two lines from each end onto my cinch buckles on my hammock suspension straps. It actually worked well but was a pain to tie and adjust. Where are you attaching the lines...what are you using for hardware...and how do you adjust the tension. Also what kind and length of line are you using? Appreciate the help. BTW...I was amazed at how well it worked. I don't know the actual temp but there was ice on things in the morning. I only had a twenty degree bag which is at least that many years old. I was a little chilly at times on top but not on the bottom. Pads will only be a backup from now on. A personal tip....don't drink too many beers just prior to hammocking in freezing weather! Nuff said. :_

I have a siple loop with a pressik knot on the suspension line of the hammock. Then on the UQ I have a large loop that runs from one corner to the next. In the middle of that loop is a barrel lock (cord lock). I put the cord lock in the loop on the hammock line and adjust the barrel lock. Someone else may have a better way though.

That's an interesting method...I had given some thought to having one line from the two loops and then suspend it from the middle. That's how the suspension lines for the Claytor bug netting work. Anyone else out there? Pics???

I think the method you describe is the way one hangs the Potomac (a.k.a. Kickass) quilt. Has worked just fine for me on a HH.

I like your new atavar Dutch. I was lurking over at WB recently and I saw your drunk cat photo used as an atavar, but it didn't seem to be you.

Shock cord (through the short ends of the quilt) from the 4 corners, one small mini-biner on each end, para cord on the mini-biner, a convenient loop at the end of the hammock, a third mini-biner tied in the middle of the ridge line. On each end, bring the shock cord under the hammock, quilt will be under the hammock, and clip to a mini-biner above the hammock, but under the ridge line. Clip paracord to the mini-biner. Run the paracord through a loop at the end of the hammock and to the 3rd mini-biner in the middle of the ridge line. Tie it off. If its cold tighten up the paracord at the middle of the ridge line. If its hot, loosen it up. The trick is just enough shock cord but not too much.
