I originally loaded the pictures to facebook then copied the URL over here. Facebook has been JACKED UP all week. Pictures not loading, disapearing etc. Happening not to just me but many others. When I first posted these here they would come and go.

I've seen that some folks have a photo album here. I need to look at how that works.

Well I've loaded them to an album here but cannot figure out how to get them into a post.

Wouldn't 1" EMT conduit work just as well for the top rail? I think it would cost similarly, but would weigh less.

Fencing top rail is frequently used because one end is swaged to fit in the other end. Cut it in half (or any other lengths you prefer), turn the swaged end around and rejoin. You now have a two piece ridgepole for easy storage/transport.

EMT couplings have proved to be failure prone in this application.

The reason most use the fencing top rail is it has a swaged end and if you cut it in two, you have 5' pieces, and slipped together with no rigid attachments, you have a 10' top rail.

Ease of assembly and portability is the reason. If done right, nearly anything fairly rigid and strong will work as a top rail.

    Simple tripod lashing video.

Length is not a huge concern for us, we would put it in the trailer. I was just thinking of a little weight savings. Thanks everyone. We need to make enough to hang 4 right now for a fall outing. I was thinking that each tripod could be used by three hammocks. So a total of 5 would be needed for four hammocks instead of 8. Any ideas.

Depending on arrangement I could see four Hammocks hanging from Four Tripods. Just set them up in a square. We are planning a Great Woodbadge hang for our 2014 class and will have five hanging in a pentagon.

If your tripods are strong enough, set 4 of them up in a square connected by 4-5 ridgepoles to hang 4-5 hammocks.

    Or a diamond shape...

This has been discussed in various ways. I'd suggest starting a separate thread with specific questions.

No reason you can't do it though. Make your tripods tall enough, at least in the beginning, to allow room for "stacking" ridge poles. Lots of cordage, some fiddling, and voila!

Okay, I'm just gonna hush now and let gmcttr tell it. Ha!

Those look like the BSA cotton uniform ankle length socks to me. The lettering says "BSA". This must have been shot at his scout troop meeting. I wonder if he has converted any of his scouts to be hangers or not.
