Could be much worse. We could be hanging out at "Crack Forums". Overall, I think our addiction is a positive one.
anything that gets me outdoors and in thick of it is a good thing in my book.

the down vest idea is excellent. I too carry either a down vest or a puffball vest year round just to gaurantee something for the core...now with that vest et.al. inside a hammock sock and then every thing under a tarp surely it will stay dry....nice thinking!

But this question seems to apply more to the use of a Yeti underquilt than it does a Blackbird hammock. If using a full length uq on a Blackbird, there is no need for additional insulation under the legs.

When you are talking about UQ and TQ are you using those in place of a sleeping bag? And does the UQ go in the BB or under it?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum KONAC!
Yes, I use them in place of a sleeping bag. The underquilt (UQ) does hang on the outside and bottom of the BB so that the insulation is not compressed and rendered useless.

    welcome KONAC .....
yup, you got some threads to go thru, and all fascinating stuff and thanks to the hammock forums we can learn at a much quicker rate rather than stumbling on in the dark by ourselves. I try to add photos to my posts when ever I can to help relay my point.
My blackbird in the bivy mode requires a pad, no uq, but the uq could be used as a top quilt in this case. this is still in the experimental/prototyping/modeling stages btw .....

Underquilts block the bugs from biting through, or a double layer BB (or any other double layer) will do the same thing with no underquilt. Only on the hottest, stickiest nights of the year is sweat a concern. Even then, your back tends to stay pretty dry due to the airflow below you. I've never had much of an issue sticking to the hammock.

I do have to wash my hammock from time to time. I use my eno in my house everyday, so that gets used the most, and gets washed every once and awhile. I hadn't washed my bb yet, it's still fairly newish ......
