Nice report indeed. I've read that the DRT is a rough one. Ok, see where you compared it to the other trails around....I think I'd like it over 3 days.

A person in good shape could tackle it in two. I had to walk about 2.4 miles to get to it on the east side from the AT. And 1.6 miles on the west side on the BMT. Plus, you'll venture upwards of another mile or so to get down to water sources because except for one seep that flows across the trail (which won't be there at all in warmer weather) you have to head .1 to .3 miles downhill to reach water. So 23 miles and change.
Looking at the profiles from Sgt. Rock's guide, the 18.6 miles of the DRT offer up about 4700 feet of climbing. Plus the 800 or so of climbing up the AT from Jarrard Gap. Plus heading downhill, then back up for water. I'd estimate about 5800 feet of elevation in 23+ miles.
Technically the DRT continued south on the BMT for another 16.2 miles to Three Forks Junction on the combined DRT/BMT/AT. But since I already had done that section a couple of times, I decided against a repeat.
Three days kept it mostly pleasant for me. Two would have been a challenge and maybe not a fun one. And then there are ultrarunners that do the entire 57-mile GA loop in under 24 hours for fun...
great pics and nice write up! Thanks for taking us along.
That sounds like fun... I wish we had awesome trails like that down where I live...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...
