Need a source for a load of cinch buckles.
I got myself in over my head making hammocks for folks, mostly kids.
(Now more than 20 hammocks in the pipeline, 6 delivered to date)
These are all for friends or family, mostly kids under 18. (Nieces and nephews)
My original intention was chainlinks, whoopie slings and tree huggers.
After reviewing the various suspension options with their parents (my siblings), cinch buckles are the choice.
With 4 per hammock x 20-30 hammocks, well you see it can add up.
The in over my head part was offering to gift all of these hammocks to folks.
Not so bad when I get to spread it over the year but, me and my big mouth talking up hammocking, well, they all want their hammocks now!
Ever been hassled by 6 year old for a hammock?
Well, I'm catchin grief from 2 of them a couple times a week, not to mention the 11 & 12 year old, couple of 16 year olds and the 18-23 yar olds. Ages 16 and up have discovered it is a great way to hang with a boyfriend/girlfriend and summer is here.
Soooooo....
I have my spool of 7/64 Amsteel being delivered today, along with a hank of 1/8. (Thank you Redden)
Ordering some 25-50 yards of polyster strap material.
Tablecloths delivered.
Have ordered all kinds of diy parts from Warbonnet, Arrowhead, Buttinasling, Wilderness Logics and Whoopieslings to check out various parts from dyneema to amsteel, whoopies, chain links, straps, buckles, rings etc. Thanks gang!
But, as I have learned, getting into hammocking is like buying a horse or a boat, doggone if I don't just keep spending money.
Bottom line, gifting 20-30 hammocks is gonna be a challenge but I'm almost there.
Carabiners and cinch buckles are left.
For the older kids, adults, I'm using whoopies and soft shackles, maybe marlin spikes for those that will pay attention to setting their suspension.
The younger ones get cinch buckles and biners for the strap.
First 1/2 dozen hammocks broke down like this cost-wise approximately
Tablecloth $16
Chain links with cinch buckle $15
Or
Chain links with rings 2x$6 + 4x$4=$28
Straps $10
Carabiners 2x$7=$14
Adjustable Ridgeline $15
Bishop Bag $12
Now after buying some shock cord, cord locks, silnylon material, roll of strap material I can make everything except the biners and cinch buckles.
At least 12 of the remaining have to use the cinch buckles by request.
I will de done the entire project by mid August and they can all ask for Dutchware from some other aunt, uncle or parent for Christmas.
