    Thinking outside the box, why make the TI toggle a tube. It can easily be flat bar with a hole in the center of it. With a metal you loose the friction you have with wood unless you sandblast it to rough it up a little. Im thinking a 3" flat peice maybe with flared out ends to keep the loop from sliding off.

    Flat bar reads like knife to me. I'd worry about the forces cutting the amsteel.

    Dutch clips are from flat plate, as well as Dutch biners and well almost everything he makes.
    This is what Im thinking. My edges aren't smooth but think Dutch clip.

    I think the round shape of the dowel is necessary to insure that the overlapping cords are pressing against each other and the dowel to achieve the friction needed.
