    New with lots of questions!

Hi everyone - I'm fairly new to all of this, and would like some suggestions and recommendations!

I have just purchased a HH Explorer Deluxe w/o bug net. I've been out a couple of times and know I need a good underquilt. My son has a Potomac which I really like, but I don't think they are available anymore. I've seen the Speer and really like it, but just being the occassional user, I'm not sure I want to put that much money into one. I haven't seen a JRB, but understand the Nest is on sale, and might be a good option. If anyone has used a JRB with this hammock - what do you think?

    Welcome to the site Judy,

The Nest was made to fit all asymmetric models of the HH. I have one and also the No Sniveller. They are very nice underquilts. Here's a method I use as well as many others do when using the Nest on a Hennessy. Instead of having to undue the velcro on the underquilt each time you enter/exit, just push the underquilt to the side when you enter/exit. Much easier IMO. Some people find they have cold spots if they dont line the velcro up just right and it is kinda a pain to reach down and not only close the Hennessy slit but then have to close the Nest slit.

Edit.....Just remembered you have a top loader now without the bugnet....oh well
    Forget the velcro issue.

    Judy,
I, too, have the Nest and love it. I use it as FF mentioned above because I have experienced those cool spots thru the velcro with the Nest velcro'd to the HH velcro. If I knew what I know now I would have chosen the No Sniveller instead mainly because of it's double use as an insulating poncho. I have used my Nest as a Poncho but the No Sniveller is much better suited for that use.

The velcro was my main concern as far as cold spots. I got the no bug net mainly because of the special HH has, but also because I felt closed in on the hammock I was using with a bug net. (However it did save me from hitting the ground when I flipped! Those nets can be pretty strong!)

So, I do plan on using the velco entry as designed. Lot easier and my son can't laugh at me as much getting in and out.

Another question - has anyone changed the ridge line on a HH?

    I second Stoikurt's opinion.

I use the No Sniveller long for the HH Explorer underquilt. I was going to get a nest but wanted a little bit more length on the coverage.

Was in it last night in a Big Agnes bag at 40 degrees and was toasty warm.

Man I sleep great in that setup.

Judy, I use a Rocky Mt. Sniveller on the bottom and pile a Katahdin on top. I was in it last weekend at 33* and life was good. You can't go wrong with JRB.

With Winter coming on I think about this also, I wonder do you all recommend the JRB over the Speer? It seems like you are and I wonder if that is because it has multi-uses?

I think it is mainly cause the JRB quilts were available first and they are less expensive. The wearable quilt thing is always a nice bonus. That being said, not having to fiddle with the suspension of the underquilt is what makes the Speer Snugfit nice. Although you can get a thicker underquilt from JRB such as the Rocky Mtn. Sniveller.........oh my .....so many options for you.
