    Uwharrie River report

This is just a quick trip report. I have some pictures I will post soon.

Myself, Trugracie, and his son took a small trip to UNF and camped beside the river over the weekend. Two of my buddies, and my younger brother also came.

We had talked about one campsite at the lake, but decided to head down to the river at the last moment. We had a really nice site beside the river, the only drawback was the walk up and down a very slippery hill. We arrived around 2 pm on Saturday and setup camp. It was very nice weather but we all knew they were calling for rain, so we took our time setting up for wet weather.

Trugracie, his son, Arn, and myself were the only hammockers, the other two slept in tents and were picked on pretty much the entire time. Especially when the rain set in.

After we got camp setup, we sat around and BS'ed, then dined on a pot of Trugracie's menudo. That was good eatin right there. It started to rain pretty good at dinner time, so we setup a community tarp to sit under.

Around 10 pm everyone headed for their hammocks (and tents ha!). We all had movies on our ipods, etc, except Trugracie. I think he was too tired anyway.

I slept great during the night. I had to be wakened the next morning I was sleeping so good. I found out that morning that one of the tenters got wet during a night time downpour, and one hammocker actually got cold and had to get up and start a fire. I had told him earlier to make sure he used his hammock sock, but he didnt, and paid the penalty. Although it was only low 40's, it is easy to get cold in a hammock. The rest of us were fine during the night, even one tenter.

We got up sunday, packed, had coffee, and checked out East Morris Mountain camp (we are thinking about planning a HF hang there soon) then headed home in beautiful NC weather.

Can't wait to do it again!

Sorry for the bad pictures. I had my nice camera charged and left it on the table. I took a few just to chronicle the trip.

    Bad pic of Trugracie's setup.

    Yuck tents.

Look forward to your trip report. My wife, dog, and I had a quick hike at the north end of the Uwharrie trail on Sunday.

Next time, I want to come!

BHancock, we need to plan a UWharrie ride so I can learn about the OHV trails.

Definitely! The trails are still closed for the season but should be open by the 31st I believe. Trugracie and I have been talking about riding some of the trails and camping out up there. There are some pretty good spots up there.

We thought about an open invitation to the campout but decided we didn't have much time this time, and just needed to get out.

    Good times!
My son and I had an awesome time, just wish we could have stayed out longer. Looking at the bright side, there are many more hangs to come. I for one, love to camp at Uwharrie. It just seems like its my home campground, and feel the need to explore every last corner of it. Bhancock, and his entourage were very accommodating and fun to hang out with. We are all commited to hang at least once a month, and will hopefully be hosting a group hang here soon once we find "the perfect spot".
