Tarp Skins

I plan on making a set of tarp skins and was wondering if the tapered tube is more for diamond and hex tarps? I have a square tarp I am making them for, and my thought is the rolled up tarp will be the same size tube it's whole length. Am I wrong in this thinking?

It's tapered because it holds the tarp better and prevents it from slipping. Also, a lot of people tend to bunch it up more in the middle rather than the ends.

To add to what Fronkey said, I find it easier to roll the corners inward and up towards the middle which creates the taper. This also makes sliding them on and off easier.

All of the above is true...but for me, I prefer to use a python skin (one large snake skin). It keeps me from getting the giant bubble of air in the middle of my tarp when I used two snake skins, and i find it slightly easier to use. YMMV.

x2 I made one out of camo netting. Works great, as the air is forced out one end. No bunching up in the middle. The dimensions of the netting I started with was 9 inches wide x 12 ft. long. Sewed a hem on each end,, then folded in half long ways and sewed. Turn the whole thing inside out and your done.

Yep, that is my method as well. Easy peasy to sew up.

I made one long tube out of tulle, with pockets one the end. That way if its damp I can hang to on the outside of the my pack, if dry put it inside.

How big of a tarp do you have? I am considering making a python skin for my Kelty Noah 12x12 and want to make sure it would fit with these dimensions...
