12 footers are nice. Especially for the guys who have WL hammocks and some of the longer ones.

Don't have a 12" but do have a Hex by Hammock Gear and love it. They make some great gear. I as well would love to see some of your new tarp.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I could not imagine having a ridge line that long. I find more than enough coverage with the standard length and coverage for me with a longer ridge line would be less.

With a longer ridgeline on a warbonnet blackbird it would be difficult to get a low pitch on your tarp. As most are aware a warbonnet blackbird is set with its strapping apx 30 degrees.

Try getting a low pitch with a longer ridge line. You will find it a bit difficult to do on a blackbird.

I wasn't even thinking of that. Good point.

Depending on the hammock you use, you should seriously consider a longer ridge line on a tarp, in particular with the HG 4 season Cuben tarp, It's not as wide as a Warbonnet Superfly, on those stormy windy nights you want your tarp down low, a longer tarp will cause some problems on those stormy nights with a blackbird hammock.

My personal opinion: I don't think the longer tarps for a Blackbird Hammock is a wise decision.

I'd rather have a wider tarp than long. That way I can retain some loft inside (not unimportant when you're 186 cm above sea level), and still both get the tarp down low for good cover, or get a decent area covered in porch mode.

I think we are all saying the same thing; the tarp has to fit the hammock for optimum performance. My hammocks are 11' long with a 9-1/2' ridgeline. So, a longer tarp works great. I have a WBBB also and I use a smaller tarp with that hammock so I can set it up low in storm mode.

Doors affect the tarp length also. If you have doors to close, the tarp can be barely longer than the hammock ridgeline. If not, some overhang is needed.

Actually both my Superfly & HG Cuben have doors and having the 12 length on the Cuben with the door allows me to hang gear off the end of the hammock with a good expectation of it staying dry in a hard blow. That is something I like a lot. My DIY Jerry5 Hammock is 11 feet long and 12 on the tarp ... works for me.
