IMHO

I'll have to weight my mini carabiners again. I bought some micro carabiners and I think they're 3.2g. They are small!

Ha. Dejoha - I knew I had seen that picture before. Fantastic idea. I've been doing this for a bit now and when a thread popped up regarding this, I had a little bit of a time convincing people that it actually held.

I was under the impression that you needed a full-sized carabiner to handle the forces pulling on it while being used as a toggle.

So these micro-biners are strong enough to use for someone under 200 lbs?

I'm 250 and have no problem ....

The beauty of the physics behind the toggle is that, when used properly, the force is transferred from the whoopie, strap, rope, etc. To the tree hugger. The toggle doesn't carry load per se, at least not much of a load as compared to the tension in the suspension lines.

Even so, when used as a toggle the mini biner is being loaded in shear .. That is to say that the forces applied to the toggle would try to shear it in two, not pull it in two. The mini biner would have to bend to fail. In this case, the mini biner is a heck of a lot stronger loaded in shear than in tension.
