You can build a fire when it is raining.

You can build a fire when it is raining.

    I always struggle with this.

I don't think the problem is the rain coming down. I think the problem is the fuel is wet. I say this because I also have just as much trouble building a fire on a clear day that was preceeded by a prolonged stretch of rain.

I would really appreciate a step by step explanation of the process.

Splitting wood to get to dry inner wood. Skin wet bark off ...... use firestarter or even some of your cooking alcohol. Don't choke the fire out by adding too much wood. It takes time and perseverance to get it going but doable. also ...firepit had some cedar limb protection.

Fantastic Trip Report!! Thank you...makes a noob like myself feel better...oh how I can relate!! I agree doing it yourself will help you learn faster...although I have figured out that even if you don't know the proper knot or name of it....if it holds..it works!!

loved the report, but i'm not sure i follow the part about the zipper pull/shock cord prussik around the UQ suspension... are you basically keeping the two suspension cords bound together closer to your head to keep the UQ snug around your shoulders (if that made any sense)? if so... genius... i have the same problem and never thought of doing that...
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I have not lived.
