If your the type who just likes to buy something instead of making something, hese are what I use, because I need them for other boating purposes.
Get two or more of the small ones and grind one of them to a much more pointy end. If all you are doing is 1/8" or smaller, just get one and grind it. These are easy to make out of a BBQ skewer, bronze/aluminum tubing, or knitting needle. All you need is a hammer and a Dremmel tool to cut the opening. Adding heat from a propane torch helps the hammering if you are making it out of a skewer.

I love the Selma fids. The 3/16" works great on 1/8" but you can't get it though most 7/64" stuff. I use this one almost all the time.
