Talking Lemon Pledge your sewing machine

Here's a sewing tip: Use Lemon Pledge and polish the bed of your sewing machine. Also take off the foot and polish the bottom of it. I did that and have had significantly less trouble with fabric getting out of alignment from the top or bottom layer stretching when I'm sewing a long seam. Was sewing some 2.2 PU coated ripstop today and it wasn't a struggle at all (the coated side is rather grippy).

My poor kitties were the inspiration for this. We noticed every time we Pledged a surface that they were used to jumping on, they'd hop up then slide like it was an ice skating rink , usually right off the other edge. I finally put 2 and 2 together.

    now thats funny, right there.

thanks for the sewing tip too, I have a Jardine quilt kit cut out around here... somewhere, maybe if it rains I can sneak the machine down into the basement, sew a couple inches, seam rip a couple....

My kids think the cat skating is insanely funny. I do, too, well mostly, but have to remind them to have a little compassion for the kitty, too, who just lost all his dignity. But, hey, it gets the kids to clean and dust, LOL!

I just hope this tip helps someone else, too.

I had a terrible time with drag making the fabric stretch when I sewed my first G4 backpack. Then I Pledged the machine and foot before sewing a Z-hammock and I noticed a big improvement. Even with the long 60-inch seams, the two layers of fabric stretched very little, and remained even at the end of the seam with only a little bit of effort. Of course, I still had to hold the fabric taut both before and after the needle, but it was much easier than before polishing.

I was working on a 2nd G4 pack yesterday, much easier sewing than the 1st time I did one, before Pledge.

Good luck with your quilt kit!
