    Overstuffed full UQ

My wife and I are going on a trip out west later this month, and being the po' students we are, we're trying to avoid hotels as much as possible and camp. Trouble is, my wife is chronically cold, and the night temps where we're going are ch-ch-chilly (in the 30's!)

So I made her this full-length UQ meant to be good to 20 degrees. I maaay have gone a little overboard with the down; after all, a few extra oz means nothing to me if it avoids hotel costs It weighs about 27 oz, and I think I'll be able to use it in winter with all the extra down.

Here's a teachable moment: I've been using a small WalMart carabiner to attach my ridgeline for quite a while, but when testing the UQ I guess I strained it too much and...

Didn't put me on the ground, just dropped me several inches. And startled me a bit. Looks like I'll be using something stronger.

    I don't have a pattern, I just followed these directions: http://www.tothewoods.net/RedRiverGo...orgeQuilt.html

There are some differences in mine, like parallel baffles and channels instead of loops on the edges, but it's a really good tutorial.

How do you determine what the temperature rating is? I've been struggling with that one for a bit.

I use Western Mountaineering's scale as they are generally considered to be one of the most reputable sleeping bag manufacturers who do not inflate (lie about) their ratings. Great bags too; I own a couple of them.

    Temp. Rating = 68 - 18 x Avg. Thickness

So a 2" average thickness would be rated at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

So an UQ with a 3" loft in turn would theoretically be rated at 14*? And most places would just call it 15?
