I (and others) have wondered about the odd spacing of tie outs on the Chinook.
If you figure it out, let us know.
or if you come up with a creative use for the anchor point inthe middle of the tarp on the ridge seam.

I've used that middle tie-out and some shock cord to pull straight up for additional tautness...gotta have something conveniently right above you for it work though....

That's actually not that bad of an idea. You could always have some shockcord with a loop in the end and pass it through a "ridge line" tied off higher than your others (maybe same height as your hammock webbing). Then you wouldn't be dependent on something being "above" you to tie off to.

The middle tie out works well for a pull out on a ground setup like a half wedge. But to be fair, I never used it on mine while hanging.

I like your tarp! cause i have the same one~

Why did you decided to add the webbing? I used the grommet instead. I added a prusik knot to the ridgeline and through the grommet and used a toggle to secure the ridgeline.

Also, if you don't want to sew and reconfigure your tarp (the bottom spacing grommet), you could use a small rock and secure the tarp https://youtu.be/nP_AsTcK3mw 1:17

I was going to buy me a War Superfly but I guess i could use my tarp for this season. My Dream Hammock should be coming in two weeks. i can't wait.

Good luck with your hammock camping~

    Me too!

Why did you decided to add the webbing?
Because grommets always tear out. Only a matter of time. Webbing almost never does.

thanks for sharing. I have just ordered a cuben fiber camo 11 x 8.5 tarp for my HH ultralight backpacker and was wondering if i could set it up in a way like a winter palace with doors but was unsure if the doors would meet in the middle and close up the gap but your photos show me it works perfect! i thought those winter palace's have slightly longer sides to make the doors close the gap but obviously thats not neccesary, im glad now ive ordered a rectangle tarp it gives loads of options and different options are allways fun, whereas a dedicated hammock tarp with only only option of tying seems boring in comparison

Thanks for the info and photos. Based on your post I picked up a Chinook in sand color on Amazon. I have a Noah's 12 but have never gotten a tight pitch and never had it in heavy rain. Even thought people swear by Noah's I figured for under $60 I'd give the chinook a try. Going to fiddle with both this weekend then choose one for an upcoming trip. Not too concerned with weight, we have only a handful of portages, mostly looking to stay dry.
    Thanks again!

I love mine - even did a version of a double pole mod - works great with my JRB Bridge Hammock:
