I think we can talk about a variety of options for a variety of folks. Some may be able to acquire & operate a needle & thread & some (for one reason or another), may not.

I think it would be good to have a way of organizing thoughts & suggestions for making "budget" hammock gear...

A challenge of sorts... but at some point, ideas should be put to a real world test.

This could be handy, not only for someone who finds themselves in a homeless situation, but for anyone on a tight budget. Plenty of folks like that these days
And how about those like the dad that recently joined HF & talked about wanting to outfit his family for hammock camping, but was blown away by what it would cost!

I've seen a plain queen sized sheet with the ends lashed for a hammock. I think those can be had for less than a blue tarp. It might not last forever, but it should last for a few weeks.
I've picked up some of those sheets for a couple of bucks. A thrift store might have them for under a buck.

Yeah and if your homeless you can go to places like St. Vincent De Paul or the Salvation Army and see if they are giving away thrift story vouchers, big cities often do this so you can spend the voucher on a pack, clothing, or other gear and they know you wont buy booze.
Some of my freight hopping adventures on film over at my YouTube Channel... Oh and there is other stuff there as well!
