Great thread! Those are some excellent tips Shug! I hope to put them into practice this winter after I get my Incubator! If all goes to plan I should be able to test out my winter set up in -30 degree weather...now if I can sleep warm in those conditions I will be most happy....and well rested
i think some guys use 2 driducks ponchos for weathershields/socks. they actually look kind of neat, but i don't know how much pack space they take up. probably a lot

I been down to -19 C in my Winter Yeti 2/3 UQ .
As top insulation i tried a combo of a Golite Ultra and a Wm Caribou, which worked well.
At 480 g + 595 g, it´s a lighter option then my WM Puma at 1730 g.
The only problem i had with cold temps, is the **** shock cord suspensions .
They loose stretchiness when cold, so the UQ is dangling like 10 cm under the hammock.
And that gives you a really cold surprise in the middle of the night
Maybe this is just a short UQ problem ?
Of course the Hammock community already thought up solutions for that:
- Biners in the ridge line to give the shock cord a different angle.
- Or the ready made "UQ Triangle Thingies" .
My feet gets cold easily when im not that active in camp, so i will look into some warm alternatives for this winter .
Another thing worth thinking about when sleeping cold weather,
is your breath.
Your breath consists of more humidity than you might think.
And all that breathing during the night can build up a fair amount of ice .
Less is more, if the weather permits.
No mossie net, high tarp and so on.
I think Shug experimented with a fleece thingy , to catch the humidity ?

I know that Bomber too are making preparations in regards to winter hanging
Should've bought a full UQ then!
... On a serious note, I've recently read a thread on HF regarding freezing feet - I'll try and find the link for ya
From the responses I've got so far and a bunch of other threads, I can see that I've got a few things to learn about winter camping, but I'm getting thereFor once I'm actually looking forward to winter!

I got my Burrow and Crowsnest (winter) down to seven and my feet were cold the first night with no socks and were not the second night with socks. Suplemented my calfs with a 1/4 ccf pad. When I used this combination between 30-35 I was roasting like a potato. That lead me to get his summer burrow and crows next and I am excited as the temps lower to see what temp variation I can get between these 2 sets of quilts. Id think you could get down to zero with the incubator and burro and may start cooking at 30 above or so (depending on how warm or cold you sleep).
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
More bulky than I liked.........
It worked but I have gone to having my balaclava over my mouth. Took a night to get used to but works terrificly.
