permethrin and suspension lines

I was thinking of treating the lines to my hammock to prevent these "visitors" from following the "highway" into my hammock.
I'm just worried about whether it will harm my suspension lines.
Any experience with this?

I have gotten Permethrin on my Amsteel, and have not noticed any problem. I do NOT spray my tree straps, though. I only want to keep bad bugs off my hammock. No reason that I see to gratuitously kill every innocent good bug that might be coming up or down the tree trunk and not bothering me. Just not my style.

That's a good point about not treating the straps, will have to remember that.
Thinking I might just treat something like a strip of an old bandana so I can tie it around the suspension line and do double duty, stop bugs and act as a drip line.

Excellent. I'm with Rain Man: no need to change the ecology of the trees you hang from if you'd like to be closer to "leave no trace". Similarly, at home I spray Deet on a couple of disposable cloths I place near the overnight hammock set-up. So long as the critters are elsewhere......

I took Rainman's advice, but split the difference. I hung my tarp and then treated the two feet closest to the hammock. I doubt I'd ever hang THAT close to trees! Funny, about two hours post treat, I went out to look at it. There was a bee buzzing around the buckle! Didn't light on it (either sensed the Permethian or figure out it wasn't a flower)

I've done the same, only I wasn't spraying, it was more of a dunking and I did hammock and whoopies since they were attached but not my tree straps. I wasn't as good a steward of the environment as Rain Man but just didn't think about treating them. I do agree with his style though and appreciate the post.

Also, I haven't noticed any bug corpses in the vicinity of my gear... does this stuff kill them or simply repel them or both?

I use Sawyer's spray permethrin on my hammocks and webbing and clothes. Also use permethrin on my dogs. When the Sawyers runs out I got a quart of the 10% that I can dilute for the soak method.

I soaked everything including all suspension, but then thought like Rain man when I went to set up... so next time I won't do my webbing...
