Congrats, I slept in my HHDJ over the weekend. It sure was nice and peaceful, except I needed the earplugs when the dogs heard some deer moving around in the woods.

couple of things: taught tarp- tie it to the tree, not the hammock.

Cheapo bag probably kept your underside warm because it didn't compress as well- be aware of this if you upgrade to a more compressible bag.

and I am of the firm opinion that the diy stuff can be just as good as the commercial!

Thank you for this information. I actually just bought a better bag, so I hope that doesn't cause me problems.

The DIY stuff is great if you are good at it (I have a problem with cutting corners )

you might need a pad or an under quilt to avoid 'cold butt syndrome' CBS- try it out at home so you can see.

and you can get better at the diy... :P
