I made another stand with treated 2x4's instead of the Oak. It works great. I found a 16" hex bolt to use for my stake. Here are some photos:

One trick I learned is to make sure you put the stake straight in the ground and not at an angle. Otherwise it will come out easier. This 16" hex bolt works very well.

I like that idea...how about a "shelter evolution" by itself? Start with a cave, then your old army tent, then a couple others, maybe a Shires or a tarp, then a hammock?
