Exclamation The Incubator verses SnugFit verses Mt Washington 3

    Hey All,

So, I'm looking at getting ready to place an order for my first UQ for my Backbird DL 1.7

At this point I have narrowed it down to these three:

    The Perfect Trees "The Incubator"

    http://www.theperfecttrees.com/products.html#Incubator

    or the:

    Speer Hammocks "SnugFit"

    http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/SnugFit.htm

    or the:

Jacks R Better "Mt Washington 4" (sorry for using "3" in the title of this post... my bad!)

    http://www.jacksrbetter.com/Mt%20Washington.htm

I am looking for a full-length and these seem to be three of the top dogs out there for a full-length UQ. (any further suggestions?)

    The Incubator:

WEIGHT: 28 oz (including stuff sack and suspension)
    DIMENSIONS: 77" long × 50" wide (196 × 127 cm)
FILL: 16 oz of 800-fill-power down
    BAFFLES: 9 differential, 3-4" loft
    TEMP RATING: 10°F to 20°F (-9 to -7°C)
    PRICE: $275
    SnugFit

    WEIGHT: 28 oz
    DIMENSIONS: 56" wide by 99" long (insulated area 45-50" x 79")
FILL: 12 ounces of +900-Fill Goose Down Insulation
    BAFFLES: 9 differential, 2.5" loft
    TEMP RATING: 30°F
    PRICE: $276

    Mt Washington 4:

    WEIGHT: 28 oz
    DIMENSIONS: 77" long × 42" wide
FILL: *unreported* oz of 800-fill-power down
BAFFLES: uses radial baffles (11 maybe?), 4" loft
    TEMP RATING: 0°F to 10°F
    PRICE: $359.95

From a comparative perspective, the Incubator seems to be better in all manners except the 800/900 down.

But, that does not mean it actually IS better.

So, I am looking for some wisdom by folks who own and have tried. I cannot afford both so really needing some experienced feedback before I spend that kind of money.

    Thanks,
    John

Thanks, I was basing my information off the individual websites.

If that is the case, it would seem to me than, from a purely informational point of view, that the Incubator would have a clear dominance over the other two.

But, as I said above, numbers do not always tell the real story... so, would love to continue to have feedback from experience!

    Thanks,
    John

I had the snug fit, never had any problems with it but decided to go with a custom uq from stormcrow - i just received my stormcrow a couple weeks back and haven't had a chance to test it - i love the looks of it and it appears to loft up more than the snugfit.

Plus I really like the idea of working with a regular forum member (not that Ed is not)

The SnugFit is dramatically under-rated with it's published spec. 10-15ºF is more accurate.

You should probably be looking at the Mt Washington 4, not the 3, when comparing the ratings. It is more comparable with those two quilts than the MW3.

They are all fine choices. None of them is 'clearly dominate'.

The weights of quilts and the amount of down on all JRB products is on the JRB quilt comparision chart... http://www.jacksrbetter.com/Quilt%20...on%20Chart.htm

The MW3 has 11oz 800fp down and the MW4 has 15 oz....The MW3 is an 20degree quilt and the MW4 is a zero degree quilt.

Since you are referencing sale prices, be sure to check in again on Monday for JRB's Annual St Patrick's Day "green" (olive) Sale...MW3 would then be $269.

Thanks for the feedback Counselor. What kind of custom uq did you end up having made?

Hey angrysparrow, yes I do agree that I should have compared it to the MW4 and not the 3. That said, the price of the MW4 is 359.95, $85 dollars more expensive than the other two, yet with near identical stats. I will go back and edit my original post and switch to the MW4, to properly adjust these comparative issues.

The only sale price I was referencing was the speerhammocks, but that is only because it seems to have been "on sale" for the entire month or two since I started looking at UQ's. Pretty much just figured it was how he/they did things on their website.

Thanks for the tip on the JRB one. I'm guess you are saying, in a round'about way, that the JRB is the one I should pick (??)

Wish I had. Have seen folks sleep in all three and all were happy.
It really is a gut call.
