    Length of Ridgeline?

So I've been wondering, exactly how long should a ridgeline be? I've read posts where people say they like it a certain length, but don't elaborate on the length itself. Is there an equation of some sort I need to go by or a particular recommended length to go along with the whole 30 degree angle, or is it just personal preference?

I generally start with 80% of the Bed length and adjust accordingly. For example, a 10' hammock with a 96" Ridgeline is comfortable IMO

The general rule is 83% of the hammock length - so far that's worked for me. My favorite hammocks are all 10 ft. or longer, so my hammock ridgeline is usually 9 ft or so.

I have found within an inch or two of 83% optimal... Buy/make an adjustable ridgeline and play with it till you like it and then either leave it there backed up with some half hitches or tie another one the right length out of something non stretchy...

The number 83% is very specific. Given that specificity, what part of the hammock do you measure when determining hammock length? Let's take a Grand Truck Ultralight. Reading on Campmor's Q&A for the hammock, they say the overall length of the hammock is 9'4" (presumably from end of fabric to end of fabric) and that the end to end measurement, including ropes (and hooks?) is 9' 10". What number should we be multiplying by .83, at least for starters? For what it is worth, I will be using this in a Single Ring Suspension (SRS) system.

I measure the fabric... That's what you lay on... And 83% is a guide line, usually within 2 inches of 83% is where people fall...

Measure from point to point wherever you want to attach the ridgeline.

83% is used as a general starting point. Another way is to adjust the hang/sag of the hammock to where you find it most comfortable and make a ridgeline to match.

Sounds like the majority is around 83%. I'll have to try it out on my hammock.
