    On the Mooch

I am formulating plans for a new video series to go beyond We Don't Sew... We Make Gear!. Tentatively titled "Making Great Gear" I would like to go to more advanced sewing techniques and concentrate at least one session on typical fabrics used for making great gear. This is where I am on the mooch. If any one has scraps (~1-3 square feet) of fabric that they _know_ the specs for if you would send them to me labeled and documented as to weight/content/vendor I would love to be able to do that. So I need something bigger than a standard sample/swatch but not enough to be useful in a serious gear project. All my fabric is from Wally World and so I really can't dig into my own stock to do this.

I am looking for something that can be sent in a standard USPS envelope. I'm not looking for a box or project sized pieces. Help me out if you will and I'll put together some more vids on "Making Great Gear."

PM me and I'll send you my mailing address. Thanks folks.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I would "LOVE" to see these, as Adia and myself have been discussing getting a sewing machine!

Have you thought about approaching the vendors for some of the sample sizes that you are looking for. I am sure they have what you need, throw away more in a day than you could use and a little free internet advertisement wouldn't hurt their bottom line either!!!!! It's just a thought..........

I have thought about that. My experience with fabric stores is that swatches/samples are measured in the square inches rather than square feet. Obviously the more they cut off for samples the more it impacts their stock for sale. I have not contacted the cottage gear vendors here individually as I am hoping they will see this and respond. However, the fact is that as long as the piece is labeled I don't really care where it comes from.

I have some fabric I'd love to send you... But I do not know it's specs... It IS ripstop, but I don't know the weight. It is one panel approx 4.5 feet X 10 feet?? If you want it let me know.

Thanks for the offer Cuffs. But I really want to be able to say with a fair amount of certainty "This is 3.5 lb ripstop llama oxford cloth." If you get my drift.

Now I want to see a 3.5 lb ripstop llama cloth. I hope you get some.

I have some triangles of 3 ply goretex (tho they don't call it that, that's a brand, but it's the same thing) ripstop from OWFINC - long and narrow, about a foot at the widest tapering from there... would those be of interest?

I might could also send a square foot of Thru-hiker momentum... I'm making a down hat and sleeping booties plus a weather cover for the uq collection, and should have a good sized swatch left after I'm done cutting.

Hey Rev - I can supply you with a great deal of smaller sized pieces of Ultrasil if you're interested. I've got a lot of cut-offs from Tarps that I often use for stuff sacks - I'd be glad to send you a pile. Also, I can send some 1.1 uncoated, one calendared and one not, and some 200d Oxford, and maybe some more. I'll look through things.

PM me with address. I'll be sure to give exact specs on all the materials.
