Tips for hangin at the beach...

Since I'm new here and still looking thru forums not sure if this is the best place to ask this but I'm going to.

I am headed to the Florida Keys in March for 9 days. 2 Nights will be spent in a group "shelter" with bunks. The rest of the time is tent camping. I know we plan on staying at some KOA's but not sure of all sites yet.

SO I am looking for wisdom from the more experienced.

Any suggestions on how to setup or what to bring? What you wish you had done or have done wrong or right?

The immediate concerns that jump out at me are bugs, wind, maybe chilly nights with wind, and trying to stack into sand for a tarp could be a problem. Actually having trees or posts to hang from?

Thanks and don't assume I have thought of the obvious either. All input is welcomed and appreciated.

Check out the TurtleLady or TurtleDog Stands perhaps? They would allow you to hang even without trees.

Sounds obvious but check for coconuts before hanging. I was at a resort in the Bahamas and I climbed into one of several oceanside hammocks strung up and nearly got brained by a coconut.

I definitely had not thought of this one, and that would totally ruin my trip

turtledog stands are awesome... staking is an issue but since your car camping just get something longer than a regular stake to drive in...

Yeah I figured that early from watching others. I already posted my attempt at a stand in the DIY forms. We spend alot of time out so I want a portable unit that I can leave in the car so it is ready whenever.

For stakes debating on long PVC or making the parachutes that you bury. again car camping not planning on having to carry anything far but we will be breaking camp every 1-2 days. I am leaning towards stakes at the moment.

parachutes work for snow... don't see why they wouldn't work in sand... i haven't played with them but they are a cool idea...

I made sand stakes from 1/4 in steel rod you get at home depot 18 inch minimum for sand and they are heavy but they work.

    'Parachutes' work great for sand.

Let me start off by saying that I have not used a stand on the beach before.

But what I would do with a stand is take something to put under the legs, encase the sand is really loose. The first thing that came to mind was a small piece of carpet or a piece of 2x4.

    Anyone's thoughts on this?
