Well, I meant that because it is half the size of a standard UQ, I get the same level of warmth (where it matters) for half the weight and bulk. It does do a better job of insulating me than my KAQ builds did. The way it 'cups' around me really provides a nice seal. So yeah, I think it's warmer than most UQs and it is most certainly lighter than a full size quilt using the same amount of insulation. Did I mention that I can remove layers of insulation as necessary, then put them back in? Yeah, it's cool like that.

Can you tell if there has been any shaping of the quilt to help it cup around you like that? This seems to be the thing the rectangular UQ's were missing...

The shockcord suspension goes along way to helping it 'cup' up around you. I'm sure the shape has something to do with the cupping too, but I'll let the guy that made it chime in. Brandon! Where are you?

Thanks, man...I really appriciate your help! I remember WBG saying on another thread how the rectangular quilts have a gap of air on the ends, and that if you just shape the quilt smaller there in the first place, you can eliminate that gap. So, it follows suit that this would be true for other parts of the quilt, too...

You might be able to add some small darts to the foot and head ends of your quilt. Adding some elastic might work as well. I don't know if you have run across this. It might help. http://thru-hiker.com/projects/down_underquilt.php

Check out Jeff's review of the KAQ too. he offers a few ideas on eliminating some shockcord and other stuff. You'll have to read the entire article to pick up everything.
