compression sack for the BlackBird

I'm surprised at how much that compresses it. I might give it a try. I like to save grams too, but sometimes that means taking a smaller pack. Besides I bet it has other uses just waiting to be discovered.

In my case, mostly Im willing to sacrifice a few grams for that amount of increased space. if it was only a 10% space increase then probaly not but it is actualy pretty big compression eh.

The suspension system was not connected when I took the pictures. If you carry it seperated then fantastic. I sometimes keep it attached to the hammock but outside of the stuff bag in which case it would easily fit into the two end helmets. Thats webbing rings and biners. No whoopie for me yet but im sure it would be the same no.? Possibly sappy mess but Ill take appropriate action when I need to deal with that.

Great to see the opinions on the the thing.

I use a Granite Gear compression sack for my BB, it works fine.

How about eliminating the endcaps and just sewing 2 straps to the bag that comes with the BB. Just a thought.

I literally have a pile of compression sacks, stored away and never used anymore. I finally discovered that if I packed everything fairly loosely, and let it fill in gaps while I pushed gear in, that I could completely fill out the pack as it should be... and actually use less space to do it. This doesn't even count the time saved. YMMV

Could work. no doubt. almost what i have been doing on a few trips with some velcro straps around. the bag that is compressed might is a bit mangled. The end caps kind of keep all that in and creates it own little bag.

i agree, i like looser sacs for the same reason, my backpack is a giant compression sac for all my stuff, i just cram it all in there and crank down all the straps on the outside of my pack. if the sacs are loose they will conform to whatever space is inside.

that being said, i do like to get the bulkier items like the quilts into smaller sacs so they take up less space, but hammocks and tarps in slightly oversized sacs are great for filling odd shaped spaces between larger or rigid items inside the pack.
