    Guys,

I'm sorry I will have to pass on this trip. After much thought I have decided not to go. Too many factors to go into. I hope you guys have a great time and I will catch you later on down the trail.

I wussed out and bailed. I forgot my hiking boots and only had my five fingers, which began to fall apart. I bought them on monday, so they will be going back. We were supposed to do 4 miles (I think) to the backside of Feather Falls, but it was raining windblown sheets across the parking lot when I arrived. Meld and E.A.Y. were waiting in the parking lot with their rain gear and ponchos and we decided rather quickly to set up in one of the campsites there. We figured the trail would be muddy slop. Each one of us grabbed our tarps and began to set up, and I swear to you the wind and rain got worse.

Meld got his tarp up first and started on his hammock and I finished a few minutes after, though a few of my Taughtline Hitches were loose so I would have to re-tye them in the rain. They were slipping and my tarp looked like a sail. It was in danger of blowing away since the soil was so saturated they would barely hold down my peg. I began to tye the first tyeout when it began to hail. It only lasted mabey 5 minutes, if that, but I had to stand like an idiot under my colapsed tarp and had to watch poor Liz give up and try to hide under the picnic table. She then decided it would be better to just perservere and get her setup put together. My feet and hands began to get really, really cold because they were both soaking wet.

I rand to the car to warm my digits and change my shoes and get some gaitors on, but discovered I had left them back at home. I did the best I could to warm my hands and put on some toe socks and got my gaitors to work with my five fingers. I went back down to camp to find Liz fidgetting with her setup and Meld all set up and in his hammock. I gave Liz a hand adjusting her tarp and we assessed the situation. We tryed to come up with a way to get all our hammocks and tarps together to create a community so we could at least talk to each other, but the trees just didn't seem to work that way for three hammocks - two mabey, but not three. We even looked to switch campsites but to no avail. So we could either setup and sit in our respective hammocks - away from one another -and be bored out of our minds listening to the relentless rain or we could sit together under one tarp and get hypothermia. I knew my feet couldn't handle that, so I retreated to my car a second time because I was beginning to shiver. I checked the temp in my car and it was at 40 degrees F, and the socks were making my feet colder than when I just had on the shoes, so I began to take them off when I noticed the laminate on the toe boxes coming apart like burnt paper.

It just seemed pointless to try and make this work any longer so I told the others I was bailing out and E.A.Y. decided to as well. We left Meld to tough it out and I drove home. My feet are still cold and I feel bad for leaving him all by himself. Stereotypes are made for a reason, it only rains in California in the Spring - like a Biblical flood. I need to revamp how I camp, and setup in the rain and have a better go at it.

P.S. Don't bother seeing Wrath of the Titans - it wasn't that good IMO, but the CGI is pretty cool. I liked the previews better. Battle ship looks boring, but Lockout, Men in Black 3, The Hobbit, and my personal must see Prometheus look amazazing. I believe all are in 3D, but I could be mistaken. The Hobbit comes out December of 2013 tho. This is what you get when the wife is off visiting her mother because you are supposed to be out tra-la-la-ling through the forest. Ok is this post long enough yet?
