BTW Happy Camper, are you planning to do a NJ hang in January? I'm going to try and make it.
i was wondering how those would work for tensioners, do you use the smallest size?

i'm also curious as to if shock cord type tensioners freeze, my guess is no.

Depending on how long you stand around not moving, and whether you hang around the fire or not, sometimes the warmest place to be is in your hammock. Guaranteed warmth with most of the winter gear concentrated there.

Too bad there is no lake to go Ice Fishing at Mt. Rogers - that's one way to stay warm. Of course, that is my favorite winter activity, next to x-country skiing. And of course, I have been accused of being immune to winter - I think it's the Finn in me.

Hey HappyCamper, you never know until you try! I'm sure a fire will be a constant at Mt. Rogers. Maybe you can be cold, but still be happy!?!

Finnish are you?! Have you been to Finland? I spent some time there and really love the country. Some day I hope to go back. Spent most of my time in Helsinki, but traveled from there to many places and got to know many great folks. I think I can even count to ten yet!!

I have not had my shockcord tensioners (thank you for the directions BTW) freeze anywhere near the degree that the latex tubing ones freeze. I've awoken with them 'stiffer' than usual, but never to the point that I was scared to bend them for fear of them breaking. I've stopped using the latex tubing all together with my sil tarps.

Wow, sorry I missed your question. I got a little busy, and haven't been following all the threads. I apologize - didn't mean to seem to ignore you.

Nope, never been to Finland, but it is on the top of my list. My parents went and visited the relatives still living there and took a lot of pictures. My Grandmother still speaks in Finn all the time, and my father can still speak some as he was brought up speaking both Finn and English.
