Extreme cold lesson learned by me on this trip:

UQ suspension (aka shock cord) will lose its stretchiness in extreme cold and doesn't snug up as well. In the wee hours of the morning, I started getting a bit of CBS as the suspension stretched out but was too stiff and cold to keep tension on my UQs The solution is to readjust/tighten, but I didn't fully realize what was going on in my half-awake state. It never got really bad, just not as warm as when I first got into the hammock.

FWIW, I had a zero degree full-length Hammock Gear UQ, with a 20 degree 3/4 length Hammock Gear on top (outside) of that. The extra length of the shock cord suspension for the 3/4 length was the culprit behind my slight CBS! I had enough insulation, but it needs to be "tight"!

Did any one go to bed already too cold or without enough hot food in them?

Or was it gear related? What do they think they could add or do different next time to be warmer?
My best advice is come up next year and answer those ?'s for your self.

Quite a few people had that problem the same night you were out.
It was great you made it out there for a night and we'll have to plan something for the future. I already miss the trail.

haha I hear you. We had people coming from all over the place to make this hang. We had such an awesome group of hangers.

Paul at AHE once told me that it's better to use polyester shock cord (not the common nylon) in deep winter because it doesn't lose it's stretch in the bitter cold like nylon. The polyester cord weighs a little more than the nylon variety but worth it in those conditions.
