Hello from a new hanger in Cypress, TX

It all started about five weeks ago. I took a coworker for an over night on the lone star hiking trail we hiked about 19 miles that day and made camp about a mile from lot #6 right on lake Conroe after setting up our bivy tents and rehydrating some dinner a man named Sargevining and his really cool dog Scout walked into our camp. After a quick introduction they moved along to find a good spot to hang. Later Sarge popped by to invite us over to see what a real sleep system looks like so we did and maybe it was the lighting that evening or maybe it really was the coolest sleep system I had ever seen. He didn't have to sleep in the dirt, he had a tarp to block the cool night breeze and the front of the tarp was propped up like a porch. He took sometime to explain his gear and how it all worked together, I was blown away. I knew from that point forward my life on the trail would never be the same. Since that majestic evening in May I have packed away my bivy tent and got a HH ultra lite backpacker with the side zip. Today I met up with Sarge and discussed some suspension systems after a few more nights in the backyard I will be ready for the buttbake! In closing I just wanna say thanks to Sarge for showing me the light.
    God speed my friends

    Welcome!

I didn't know we were allowed to "prosylitize" about hammocking . Sarge is a good guy, and you might want to be careful looking around in this forum, or even better yet, don't come to the Texas group hangs. It's a total cult, I tell ya! And never look at the bargain fabric bin at Walmart, or a sewing machine the same way again...no turning back, once you cross...for some reason, you sleep better at night though. Go figure.

    Take it easy,

Haha that hilarious! I'm sure this place is crawling with prosylitizers like spiders just hanging in trees waiting for their next ground dweller meal haha

Welcome to the forum! I find myself pimping the hanging concept too. If only this was a pyramid scheme....we could be making money by converting people to hammocking.

You need to read a few Trail Journals (TJ). There have been some real classics in the past with hammock prosylitizing on like the AT.
Certain from 2008 on the AT, was one.

Glad you got back in touch after our first meeting. We can help you with your problem, giving you suggestions of the kind of thing you can tell your wife about why you're spending so much money just to get a good night's sleep. Hammocks Anonymous is kind of a reverse of all the other Anonymos groups in that we encourage the addiction. The 12 Step program here kinda goes:

    1. Get a hammock.
    2. Get a Tarp
    3. Get an Underquilt.
    4. Get a Top Quilt.
    5. Get another hammock
    6. Get another tarp.
    7. Get another Underquilt

    ----you get the picture.
