I just got an ENO DN for father's day. Thanks to this site(and the fact I was pretty sure I was getting an ENO) I took the slap straps off my wishlist and I had waiting J r B whoopies and some tree straps. Also have some Marlin Spikes from Arrowhead and a SRL. I opened up my gift, said WOOHOO! , thanks, hugs & kisses and promptly removed the heavy carabiners and end cord and threaded in my whoopies before I hung it the first time!
Slept out back in it the first night and awakened in the same place I started!

I had a good chat with the ENO sales reps at Trail Days this year, but they didn't have any connection with the product design, only sales. Hikers picked up ENO hammocks like hotcakes, but luckily DutchWare was just down the trail where we educated people a little more.

I agree with others -- the Slap Strap design is great. The daisy chain idea is great for hammock set-ups and is used on the KAMMOK Python Straps and the knotted ropes sold by so many others.

I believe the reason ENO hasn't changed them is my speculation that a majority of their customer base uses their hammocks for periodic, short-term recreation and not overnight use. For short-term use, the straps work fine. If more of their customers slept overnight, we would have seen a change based on all the returns and complaints.

yeah. I had gotten myself the ENO One Link set as an early Father's Day present, and the kit included the ProSlaps... I wish I had known about the nylon stretch factor -- grrrrr.

So, I've bequeathed my ProSlaps to my kids hammock and replaced my giddy-up with a Marlin Spike Hitch Whoopie Kit from Arrowhead! I figure my 8 and 4 year old kids won't be able to stretch the straps out significantly, and we can get some use out of them before needing to upgrade their suspension.

Sadly, I too bought the Slapstraps before researching them more thoroughly. They go to the 'backup' pile.

Well, in looking at the site, it appears that ENO Is now coming out with Polyester Straps, and is going to be calling them "Atlas Straps" They are going to have 15 Loops on each strap, for different hang positions, and Polyester, and not Nylon. I got a message into ENO Support to see if they will be selling them quick, and if I could trade my slap straps in!! We will see. I'm not holding my breath.

I dunno, Derek...they market things like bug nets, tarps, pad sleeves, and the Ember, which are aimed squarely at the overnight crowd.

ENO looks very much like a company that doesn't use their own products.

The slap straps do have one good use: I like to use them car camping to hang gear from.

That is a very good point. I can think of a few vendors who would fall in that category.
