sewing it looks cleaner, but works about the same. no sew is WAY easier.
If you want the tq version its even easier...poke 2 holes on the bottom side of the quilt's grosgrain, thread some shock cord (or paracord)through, tie the thing together at the ties (except the top ties) and viola, you have a tq...

I have heard of some pepole doubling up for example taking a poncho liner and using a 3 season quilt to get them through the night. I don't know how low it will take you but it will take you pretty low.
