Question Ever had a RL snap?

Ok so I just set my Eno up outside. I have a few concerns but for starters.... some how my RL tightened up on me. Now by all means this is fine, I actually hate that its so big.. yeah its huge, lol. I have it as short as it will go and I really would like it to be shorter. Any who.. so once it was all set up I noticed that the RL was way tighter than ever before. I mean I think I maybe able to play a tune on it tight.. so should I be conerned? I believe its made of dynaglide, but I'm really not sure on account that it was givin to me. I can just see it now, or should I say feel it.. I think one would feel it snap before they heard it, yikes. I just imagine it slapping me in the face like a rubber band.

Generally it should be just tight enough that you can grasp it in your hand and be able to flex it w/o much effort.
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.

Just loosen your suspension up a bit, so that the RL is not so tight. Then you will probably have to hand the webbing a bit higher on the tree.

I have seen vid of amsteel being stretched to failure...it just drops to the ground.

I once medevaced a man who had been cut in half by a nylon hawser that snapped, which made the amsteel demo all the more amazing.

    It won't slap you.

My brother had his snap one time. He used a truckers hitch to hang his and over tightened it. Lesson learned

    +1

If your ridgeline is tight, and your hammock is at the correct sit height, then you need to move your tree straps up and loosen the suspension.

My RL is 7/64 amsteel, and I have had it pretty tight. So tight that the whoopies to the straps were almost straight. The other day, when out with my new UQ, I finally had the straps high enough and had a little slack in the RL. I tightened the whoopies a little, just enough to take it out.

I am not sure about "other" types of RL material and how well they would hold up being as tight.

I guess part of the reason my RL what is so tight because I just took the hammock out of the basement. hanging from the floor joists only allow me so much height with straps . so raising the straps was never really an option until I moved it outside.

I was all set to answer yes, then realized RL meant ridgeline and not real life

I used a 550 paracord ridgeline for awhile and rigged at a nearly 5 degree angle....needless to say in stretched at nearly 900 pounds of weight derived from the various graphs around here.

I noticed the severe stretch and replaced it with amsteel
