Seam Sealing Report ???'sss

So it was finally nice enough outside today to hang up my BWWD V2 and seam seal it. I def dident do the prettiest job but it should hold. In two spots I got a little on the tarp, I was always that kid in pre school that couldent draw between the lines if you catch my drift . I plan on takeing it on a trip next Friday and wanted to shower it with a hose before I went to check for leaks. How long do people suggest I let it dry before packing it up and trying this? It still has this tacky feeling to it but from what I understand this is normal . Any ways cant wait to get out on the trail next friday, be looking for a trip report.

If you used a silicone seam sealer 24 hours is a long enough for the sealer to cure. Dust with talcum powder to help get rid of the tacky feeling.

right people on here are fast. Ok So I was looking over my seam seal job this AM and besides the absolute mess I made of my tarp (the random silcone spots here and their) it dosent look half bad. My second question is I have the BWWD V2. Does any one suggest that I seal the vertical seams that run up and down the doors? Is this neccessary or will the rain not penetrate that part because it is vertical and the rain will roll off?

Yep, that's how it's done, all though I usually wait 72 hours before applying the talc (baby powder) and using the item. It's easier if you pour some talc in an old sock, knot it up and then go along and "pat" the seam with it. By the way, this only needs to be done one time.

Use "seam-grip" or "sil-net" depending on the material. IMO it's absolutly the best sealer available. I've seen other types used and over time they begin to crack and split; and have to be remove and redone---talk about a pain in the behind.

I used Permatex, no mixing required right out of the tube. Just make sure you get the right one their are lots of diffrent kinds

As for how I did it. I used the Under the ridgeline method with prusick and staked the tarp directly to the ground to get a taught pitch. I put the silcone between my two pincher fingers and pinched the ridgeline of the tarp and worked in the silcone into the seams. At first I used WAY WAY To much and got some globs. It also made a mess on my tarp but not a big deal. By the middle I caught on and used less. A little of this stuff goes a long way. Just go slow and be patient. OOHH And I only sealed the outside of my tarp not the under. Ive read that doing this is fine. Good luck let me know how it turns out.

I use sil-net and brush it on with the tiny paintbrush included. I only do the underside of the tarp. I wouldn't waste seamsealing on the doors...if it does leak thru, it'll just run down the seam and drip out. You might get a few drops if the wind is blowing hard, but not worth that much weight and effort to seamseal it, IMO.

How do you remove silcon from impregnated sil material with out damaging the waterproofingness of the tarp? I was actually thinking about this because I have a few silcone spots on my tarp that dont look pretty and was wondering if I could remove them. I dont care all that much though but curious non the less. HOpefully I wont have to re seal this tarp for a long time.
