2 days to see big bend? not likely! not even 4, not even .......

and that was my garmin 2610 that died with the "screen jitters of death". a gps is really nice to have out there, especially when solo. I had to use the maps after this and things really became an adventure! (at least when on a dirt bike).

I'm sure we'll come up with a good itinerary by the end of Feb...

Looks like I need to complete the Prairie Travois by then as well! ...might be used as a Desert Travois in Big Bend!

We should prolly decide on a base camp asap, so resers can be made.

I plan to come early and stay late, btw.

If I were to make reservations today, I would take Schrochem's advice:

    So, I'll call them today.

Sorry, Bus Riders... but I'm thinking the same thing. My Dodge Dakota with covered bed has a maximum capacity of five SOB, but that's tight!

I'd think that the village, since it has trees, would be a good base camp. you can drive from there to the various day hikes. It's also all pavement getting there.

I want to see what dave is going to come up with for a treeless hang! His present bar off the hitch going to a single tree is pretty cool, and would come in handy at the village. Not all the trees are tightly packed together there, they're kinda spaced out some.

I'm still undecided, but studying... this idea has merit. I need to find out where my father will be with his RV.

If I'm not mistaken, RGV is the only campsite with electrical hookups. There are seperate sections with and without hookups. Not sure if he requires it, but if he does, there's a good chance he will be there for at least part of his stay.

Anybody interested in canoeing through the Mariscal Canyon (10 mi)? There is little to no whitewater experience necessary. Just a lot of slow water, beautiful vertical cliffs, one tight squeeze, and a few riffles. Some times you have to paddle just to make forward progress. Of course, this is assuming normal flows.

Sounds like the weekend-only group includes Hedcase, BigBamaGuy+Guest... who else cannot extend the weekend?

That's who should carpool from Jackson.
