Thought I'd throw my invention into the discussion. Calling it the Knotty Not just for fun.

It's a cut off section of aluminum tent stake with a 90 degree bend at each end. In addition to the easy adjustment of the tail, which the single ring approach affords, with the Knotty Not you can easily remove the whole device from the line to quickly move it to another section for large scale adjustments.

The downside is since it's not captured on the suspension line, it can easily be lost.

    Here's a short video.

Do you think you can put it in the burry. Never mind I actually understand it.

I have another version in the works that's straight with grooves cut at each end to keep it on the line. Stay tuned.

Knotty, that's great. Well maybe I think it's great because its mighty close to what I've been imagining along those lines, the only difference being in my imagination there's a slight kink before the hook up so that the hook up keeps the cord from sliding off, and the kink moves the hook up aside a little so that there's very little pressure from the cord on it.

easier to imagine than draw, and easier to draw than to make. So it will remain a figment of my imagination. Yours is for real.

Before bending thick aluminum I mocked one up using a paper clip and trying it with mason line. Would that work for your concept?

Number 9 galvanized wire is thick and would work for you Knotty. Old hardware stores would carry it. We used to use alot of it years ago for hanging heavy signs in ceilings of trade shows. now use super light weight cable and clamps. Only way you could bend it, was with big channel locks period. Hard to cut also.

Acer - I'll look into it. Thanks

craige - The Ti stakes are much smaller diameter and may not offer the surface area needed to squeeze the rope against, so be careful if you try it.

I can't try it, as I dont have any more amsteel to play with that is long enough to rig my hammock. I will let you smart people here play with the idea. In the pic I used a hex key to simulate the trail stick.

I just tried this with a real trail stick. With two 1/2 hitches it slipped so I tried it with three hitches and it holds!
I haven't tried hooking it to my hammock for a real test yet, but this looks promising. I think I would put four hitches around the stick before actually trying to support myself. sorry the pictures aren't real good.

Looks like hangNyak's Idea is the lightest suspension yet if it works. Nothing to carry except the cord! Here's a better picture of my stick with four 1/2 hitches each going in opposite wraps around the stick.
