After awhile, I decided to make the plunge as well. I completely redid my hammock ends and then whipped the ends and added a prussic loop of the original cord out to a couple of rings and added some hammock end covers.

It's not necessary at all. I kept mine intact for quite a while until eventually I decided that there was no reason to be carrying around two suspension systems. I think that it looks better too.
I suppose there are some advantages to not cutting the stock lines though. If you forget a strap at home with cut lines, you'd be pretty much screwed. I also heard that if you ever decide to sell your HH, they move more quickly if they are unmodified.
So like most gear choices, there are pros and cons.
If you cut them, plan on leaving 20" of line on the hammock. That way, you will have about 10" between the whipping on the hammock and the rings, with the other 10" used up in a proper knot around the rings. I use an anchor hitch on the rings, with a half hitch on top, and the bitter end seized to the standing part.

This sounds like it will work for me. The rings seem like set-up alone will be a little easier too. The ability to tension one side & then the other with-out tying & untying knots will be a big bonus. Think I will keep suspension cord in factory length just in case.
Or you could try my new setup. Simply clip a biner to your tree hugger, then using a small loop prusik to your suspension rope and clipped to the biner.
No cutting of the stock rope. Adjustable. Easy to put up since you can leave the prusik on the hammock and just clip and go.
Also, it is cheap and not much incremental weight.
I have been in a hh for awhile now. I'm a wilderness medic instructor so my hammock is me "kiosk of solitude " after a long day of training or staff developement. I have found that the tree hugger wrapped at eye or head level, With standard figure 8 knot tight as I can get it, Is perfect. Maybe one retightening after my "sit test" to make sure all is well. I like a tight hh and I sleep like a king. Remember you can only get it so tight if you are tying old school without biner and leverage devices.

How many time have you heard.......? "nice hammock what about when there are no trees?"
Welcome caddoguy! I bet you do hear your signature line a lot judging by where you live.
Good advise for a first post!
Trust nobody!
I went with the eye level set with the huggers last night in the dark (that was fun). I am finding I also like the HH set tight, I can sleep pretty flat(ish). could have slept there all night !
Gotta luv the HH. First hang in HH last night. Temps from 50 down to 34 just before 5 am. The HH proved to be all you guys said it would be. I was able to lay flat left to right. Will need to get an UQ soon. DIY SPE & ECWS bag kept me warm, but, the HH feels more comfortable with out the SPE. The UQ will probably solve the comfort issue minus the SPE ? Bottom line, love the HH. Hate the HH stock fly. Replacing the stock fly is the next item on my agenda. I will have to search threads to see if there are any mods that can be done to improve stock fly.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
