    DIY KAQ directions

I love that the directions for making a DIY KAQ are still available. I was wondering if anyone knows of or has created a PDF with all of the pages on it. It would just make it easier for printing and reading as opposed to clicking the links. Just askin.

    Yes.

That thread contains complete instructions, along with links to a PDF version of the same.

I KNEW I had seen it somewhere. Busted again! Thanks AngrySparrow. I was not looking forward to making my own pdf version.

Does there exist a non-asym version of the directions? I would assume the same concepts apply and just the general shape would change... but being as new to this as I am I'd love to see actual diagrams and measurements.

Would such a deal be available for the non-asymmetrical version?

The are no plans to produce a DIY for the non-asym version. There are plenty of DIY for that type of quilt already. The number of parts required for the non asym version is greatly reduced. Probably better off getting what you need from Thru-hiker.com since you'd have to buy that from him anyway. I can't resell the insulation as part of my agreement with Paul.

Thanks for the info.... I suppose I could just go to KAQ and order a New River!
I have my first 2 DIY projects, a stuff sack and a tarp to worry about first anyway!

mrprez- Is there a price difference if we go thru you as opposed to the vendors in the directions? I'd just assume give you the business.

I could match their prices or maybe do a bit better. The only thing I can't provide is the insulation as I cannot resell what I get from thru-hiker.com.

OK, I added it all up and came up with a price for everything ***less the insulation*** of $55 shipped to any US destination.

For an additional $25 I will hot cut all the fabric pieces. That is the shell, liner, corner reinforcements and the cord channels. This will save you several hours of work laying out the patterns which is a PITA if you've not worked with large pieces of ripstop.

    The material list includes:

    Liner material
Shell material (OD Green Camo is $3 extra)
    Shockcord (I use 1/8")
    Grosgrain Ribbon
    Carbiners
    Yarn
    550 Cord (Camo)
Cordlocks (both kinds - 2 for the suspension and 4 for the corners)

This won't be on the website so you will need to contact me about ordering via PM or email through HF.
