Any thoughts on converting Thermarest tech into UQ

    Hey there fellow hangers,
I have recently converted from being a ground dweller to a hanger and glad to have made the switch. Problem being is now i have quite a bit of gear i don't need. I have quickly learned pads are not really viable for hammocking. Especially in a Hennessy. They work in a pinch absolutely but for long term comfort pads just wont' do the trick.
I have a Thermarest tech blanket. Specs are pretty good, 80" long by 58" wide. It has about 19 baffles already sewn...my question is would a pound of 850 down make this a viable UQ to get me down into the single digits?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks for any response.

I am not very familiar with the make up of this blanket. From a quick Google search, it seems thinner than most under quilts. Which is fine. The taller baffled under quilts typically uses less than a pound of down. More, of course, for colder weather. A pound in your blanket may over stuff it, you want that stuff to be able to loft up and not be compressed.

Check out the PLUQ option also:

It may help with some ideas w/the blanket.

Show us how it turns out. - Welcome & also give yourself an introduction.

Since it already has a synthetic fill, I dont think it would work to add down to it.
Two things- You'd need to remove the synthetic fill to install the down.
And I do not believe the exterior fabric is down proof, so it may leak down after all the work you've done.

My suggestion is to keep it as is, and treat it like a poncho liner. Add a drawstring channel and a suspension system and hang it under the hammock.
Search for PLUQ (poncho liner under quilt) Many folks have made them and they work well.

Don't give this stuff away just yet .... you'll find plenty of uses for it.
