Awesome... just awesome...I may have to try this sometime, looks like too much fun!
I already have.
Yes I will!
I want to but don't have the resources.
This looks like fun, but I will never do it.
What are you doing up there? Yer gonna die!!!
Awesome... just awesome...I may have to try this sometime, looks like too much fun!
You're quite refreshing, Refreshing.
Although I won't be camping in the trees, I frequently look up, remember and miss, many hours spent up in the trees as a kid.
Hopefully this will prompt me to make a visit back up in the green places.
Be careful and keep the reports coming.
Thanks
Awesome!!!
nice job.when you make your harness from rope or webbing be careful, the thin pressure point will rope burn the hell out of your legs when let drop quick, then catch.
Aweosme post, sure looks like fun. Would I ever try it, yup! But I would want to learn to climb well first.
Acer makes some excellent comments and even to someone like myself that doesn't climb can see there is risk involved in what you do. With that said, this is clearly something you are passionate about. Danger, it lurks around every corner of our lives these days or so it seems. With all the tragedies around the nation/world I'm not sure that there is anything truly safe anymore. I believe following your passion is a path to a truly meaningful life, I mean I've known some adults whose biggest aspiration starts with x and ends with box. You have this - good for you!
Minimize risk, be smart, live life passionately. It's not a question of dying up there, I mean we're all going to die no matter what. Like William Wallace said: "Every man dies. Not every man really lives." I love that quote.
Wait, you mean you actually sleep up there? Well that's just crazy
This is amazing. I'm so glad to see others living their dreams. It reminds me that not every person in this world just likes tv and video games. Where I come from I'm one of a kind. The only outdoorsman of my friends. I want to try this, nothing crazy, just like climbing as an 8 year old again. How did the minimalist setup work for you? How did you set it up to sleep in? A harness and rope can be had cheep and that's all I need, plus the knowledge of course.

Getting lost is not a waste of time.
I like that portaledge - only one suspension point needed. I wonder how much lighter it could get using amsteel and ripstop.
I have yet to try the ultra minimalist set up yet (rope, harness, locking biner, and an ATC tied off with a mule hitch). However, graduation is in two weeks and the forest is calling my name so I will post up my success or lack of success when I get back.
There is a dude that builds ultralight portaledges from carbon fiber poles and the ledges are mindboggling light. However I think they start at around $800 or more.
I love my hammock but I'm always careful not to get it more than a couple of feet off the ground. I have a serious fear of heights. Sometimes I put my tarp up just so I don't have to look at the tops of the trees. Seriously, this is amazing stuff. I wish I was younger and didn't have a fear of heights. I'd give this a try.
